Fundraising is absolutely essential to the operation of GAR. GAR does not receive monetary support from any high school or from the Alachua County School Board and dues alone do not cover GAR’s expenses. The rest of GAR’s income comes from fundraising activities.
Successful fundraising needs organization and many helpful hands. Parents are encouraged to suggest new money-making ideas to the Fundraising Director, Len Tomlinson at gator52@hotmail.com.

Large Donation Opportunities - Development
GAR is an important and vital part of the lives of many Alachua County youth. This year, GAR will approach various individuals, organizations, and businesses in Gainesville and Alachua County to give them an opportunity to sponsor the club. GAR is proud to offer three ways you can contribute to its mission of providing all the benefits of rowing to as many Alachua County youth as possible.  Click Here for more information.

Planned Events

SunTrust - Our Checking Your Cause
Raise $100 for GAR simply by opening a SunTrust account!  Learn more HERE.

Entertainment Book Sales
GAR expects each rower to sell two Entertainment Books at $25 each. To “opt out” of this fund raiser, the rower can simply make a tax deductible donation of $20 to the team.

Regatta Hosting
GAR plans to host the Gator Head Regatta at Newnans Lake on October 27, 2007. Hosting this regatta is a major fund raiser for GAR. Successful regattas require everyone’s help. Parents will be able to contribute in many ways, from announcing events to selling T-shirts.

Gator’s Dockside Breakfast
This popular fund raiser, where parents cook and rowers work as waiters, is scheduled for October 6, 2007. GAR expects each rower to sell 10 tickets at $6 each and participate at the breakfast. Depending on the success of the fall fundraising activities, there is the possibility of a second breakfast in the spring.

Erg-a-Thon
The Erg-a-Thon will take place in February in conjunction with LifeSouth’s Marathon. GAR expects each rower to collect a minimum of $50 in pledges and then “row” to earn the pledged amount (think March of Dimes walk-a-thon only on a rowing machine).

Wine Tasting
Back by popular request, Sara Landis, owner of The Perfect Gift, has agreed to host another wine-tasting. 100% of ticket proceeds go to GAR! Stay posted for more details.

BBQ Dinner
Similar to the Gator’s Dockside Breakfast only with BBQ! Stay posted for more details.

Kiss the Pig
One jar per coach will be put out at the boathouse, Booster meetings, etc. Rowers, parents, and other interested parties will toss change into the jars. The coach that raises the most money “wins” the honor of kissing a pig! “The kiss” is tentatively scheduled for the GAR Holiday Party in December.

Raffle
The raffle is held in the spring. Restaurants and other businesses donate items for the raffle. All ticket sales are pure income for GAR. GAR expects each rower to sell tickets totalling $20 or more in proceeds.

Yearbook Ad Sales
GAR publishes a yearbook at the end of every year. GAR expects each rower to sell $100 worth of personal and/or business ads.

ON-GOING FUNDRAISING EFFORTS

Friends of GAR
Some businesses have identified themselves as “Friends of GAR.” The Perfect Gift in Haile Plantation Village and Omni Books in Westgate Plaza have both agreed to donate 10% to GAR of every sale made to people who identify themselves as associated with GAR. Please support these businesses.

SmugMug
Rowing photos from regattas and practice are available on-line at www.garphoto.smugmug.com. GAR receives 65% of the sales price of every photo.

Albertsons
By signing up with Albertsons Community Partners Program, GAR will receive a percentage of all your Albertsons purchases. See Len Tomlinson for more details.

Cell phone and ink cartridges
GAR will collect your old cell phones and empty ink cartridges and exchange them for cash. Please collect these items and give them to Kathy Fette.
