2008 Summer
Rowing/Biking/Swimming
Weekly Camps
Justin, Michael and Jen have developed a great
plan for summer fitness. The goal of this camp system is to
encourage physical fitness and cross-training that will help them
become better rowers and have a lot of fun in the process! Two of
the days each week will be spent away from the lake to give rowers a
break from their sport and an opportunity to improve their swimming
and cycling skills. Rowers will NOT need to register for this camp
on a weekly basis, it is also a pay-as-you-go camp. The fee is $5.00
per day whenever you would like to come out. We have also added
three fun field trips to the schedule that we will further organize
and they approach. Scullers and high school rowers are welcome to
attend these workouts.

for the calendar of workouts. You will see that the first
of the six weeks begins on June 16th.
*Pool workouts are on Tuesday mornings and are from 6:30 - 8:00 am.
This is an early workout and the only time we were able to have
access to Westside Park Pool. Goggles are strongly recommended as
you will be swimming laps, swim caps are helpful for longer hair.
*Cycling workouts will be at the Hawthorne Trail on Thursdays from 8
- 10 am. For directions please use the followig link:

We will be meeting at the Boulware Springs entrance in the north
parking lot which is the first one you will come to if driving in
from Hawthorne Road. A road bike or mountain bike is recommended.
This is a paved trail away from cars with only a few streets to
cross. A helmet is suggested. Justin and Jen can both change flat
tires and will be happy to assist anyone in need of help. Rowing
shorts make great biking shorts, make sure to also bring a water
bottle.
*Monday, Wednesday, and Friday will consist of rowing sessions.
Monday and Friday will include technique work and a steady state
row on Friday. Wednesdays include land-based conditioning with a
short row. Each week has a technical focus that we will use to guide
our drill selection and exercises.
We will need parents to help us provide transportation to the field
trips. If you know now that any of those dates work within your
schedule please let us know. We hope to see as many GAR rowers as
possible this summer. This is an affordable and fun way to get in
better shape, enjoy the company of teammates, and invest in faster
boats next year!!
Please email Justin, Michael, or Jen with questions!
See you soon!
